Indiana Unemployment Uplink: Unemployment rose in most major cities in America, especially in December 2009, signaling that the economy has not recovered. So according to the U.S. Labor Department report on Tuesday (3/2). This increase rate is even worse than the previous month, November.
Unemployment in Elkhart and surrounding area in northern Indiana soared during the recession, after many vehicle manufacturers lay off workers and in some cases, closing the door of a job. U.S. President Barack Obama to visit Elkhart twice last year.
If calculated on the average, the unemployment at the national level, is 10 percent in December, unchanged from the previous month. Last year, unemployment increased in almost all 372 metro areas, except one: Troubled Elkhart, Ind.
